Khoukhi was born in Algiers, Algeria on July 22, 1988. He started his career with the youth teams of his hometown club Al Aissal FC before moving to the professional ranks with Al Sadd in 2015.
In his debut season with Al Sadd, Boualem Khoukhi scored 7 goals in 24 appearances, helping the team reach the group stage of the 2016/17 Tunisian League.
